Hair Transplant Review

Reduce Hair Loss

If your hair loss is due to hereditary factors (as opposed to drug, disease or stress related hair loss) and you've have decided that you're not yet ready for a hair transplant, you'll probably want to know some simple things you can do to at least reduce hair loss

Here are some tips that I've come across in my search for how to reduce hair loss. (These actions won't regrow hair or necessarily even keep the hair you already have but they can slow it down.)

Make sure however that you have consulted with your doctor to ensure that your hair loss is not a result of other factors like drugs, disease or stress.

Tips To Reduce Hair Loss:

Avoid Over-Brushing Hair

This is pretty self explanatory. Be as gentle as you can to reduce hair loss. If your hair is naturally messy, use a natural conditioner to detangle as much as possible before using your comb/brush.

Avoid Using Harsh Chemicals On Your Hair

This includes a lot of commercial shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, gels etc. It also includes your exposure to chlorine (i.e. from pools or even household unfiltered water.) For women, this includes perming and coloring your hair as well.

Limit Exposure To Heat

Overheating from blowdryers or curling irons, etc. can damage hair.  If you do blowdry hair, try to use the cool setting on the blowdryer.

Avoid Alcohol

Try to avoid overdoing it with alcohol - both drinking it and alcohol-based styling products. Also avoid smoking and second hand smoke which can speed hair loss.

Eat A Healthy Diet

This will go a long way towards the health of your hair and slowing down hair loss.  Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, essential fatty acids, high quality protein and organic food wherever possible. Make sure you're getting enough protein and iron in your diet as deficiencies in these things can cause and speed hair loss.

Scalp Massage

This can be with an essential oil like Rosemary oil or just with your fingers. Some experts claim this helps because it stimulate circulation to the scalp.

Emu Oil

I've heard of several people who have suggested massaging Emu Oil into the head once a day (usually at night).  I tried it and didn't really notice much difference however some people say it helps them so it may be worth a try.

Reduce or Avoid Stress

It's well-known that stress contributes to hair loss.  While purely stress-induced hair loss should definitely be addressed by your doctor, if you know you're slowly losing your hair due to hereditary factors, reducing and avoiding stress can definitely help you reduce hair loss. This includes mental stress like worry, fear and anger.

Final Note: If you're experiencing sudden hair loss (as opposed to slow genetic hair loss, thinning and balding) see your doctor right away.
