Hair Transplant Review

Hair Transplant Recovery

So you've decided to get a hair transplant - what about after the surgery? What can you expect?

Here are some hair transplant recovery tips based on my experience after my 2 hair transplants.

Again, this is not medical advice in any way and your doctor will advise you best for your particular situation.  These are just tips based on my personal experience with my hair transplant recovery:

#1 Expect To Rest A Lot

Don't plan anything major for at least 2 weeks, if not more, after your surgery.  Your body needs time to recover and repair.  Sleep as much as you can. Take it easy and catch up on your favorite movies or books.

Eat high quality food including fruits, veggies, good sources of protein etc. Just be as nice to yourself as you can and take it easy.  This can be hard, especially for us men, but it's essential if you want good results.

#2 Don't Be Shy About Calling Your Doctor

If you have questions or problems or even have a reaction you don't expect, call your surgeon. Don't be shy.  This is your health on the line. Good surgeons should answer your questions beforehand and then be available after the surgery should any issues arise.

#3 Try Not To Touch the Transplanted Area

For the first month, try not to touch the transplant area. This will help you retain as many of the grafts as possible which will result in more hair. Even when you do go to wash or touch it after the allowed time period, be as gentle as possible.

If you go out try wearing a bandana or a very loose baseball cap which does not touch the transplant area.

#4 Refrain From Major Cardio or Weight Lifting for 3-6 Months

This is especially important if you want to keep your scar small. Lifting and cardio can stretch the skin below the scar which can result in a wider scar over time.

#5 Some of Your New Hair May Fall Out (Due To Shock Loss) But It Will Regrow In Over Time

This is a common happening with hair transplants. The original hair that was transplanted will probably fall out.  Don't worry, the graft is probably still there.  Give it time and new hair will soon be growing in the transplant area.

According to my second surgeon, the new hair will at first seem very fine but over time the hair will get stronger and thicker so expect to wait about 1 year for the final look.
