When deciding on a hair transplant surgeon, you definitely want to ask to see photos of his/her work. A picture does speak louder than words.  And you will see a large variation in the styles and quality of work when you look at various before and after photos.

Seeing hair transplant photos of past work can give you an idea whether or not this surgeon's work is right for you.  Every surgeon is different (as is every patient) so you want to make sure your surgeon is the right match for you (and vice versa).

Many surgeons are now even offering photos on their websites or blogs so if your surgeon has a website, visit and see if you can find pictures or testimonials.

You might also want to do a search on the name of your hair transplant doctor as some transplant patients  start their own website or blog about their experience.  You can often find their pictures posted on the website. You might also find a forum dedicated to that surgeon's work where you can also find pictures and read testimonials.

Obviously the more photos you see from as many different surgeons as you can, the better.  This will give you a more realistic idea of what the surgeon has done and what you specifically would like to see.

Don't feel shy about asking to see photos.  A good surgeon will expect you to ask for pictures of his/her work since they want to give you a realistic idea of what they can do.  This helps to minimize problems, misunderstandings and sometimes even lawsuits. 

If your hair transplant doctor refuses to show you photos of past work, you'll probably want to look elsewhere although I never ran into this problem when I was interviewing various surgeons.  The main difference I saw was in the amount of hair transplant photos available. Some doctors had lots, some only a few, and there was a wide range of results across surgeons.

Many hair transplant doctors also offer testimonials, letters and before-and-after pictures for you to browse.   Some may even employ past clients so you can meet with them to look at the surgeon's work first hand. 

Other places to find hair transplant photos include hair loss forums and specialty websites.  Keep in mind however that these aren't an accurate picture of hair transplants.  Most people who post on these forums have had bad experiences and many who are very satisfied with their experience don't feel the need to make any comments or post their pictures.
