Hair Transplant Review

Hair Transplant Doctor:

If you've decided to get a hair transplant, choosing the right surgeon is essential.

You can find a list of the hair transplant doctors in your area by the doing a simple search at Google or Yahoo.  You can also try your yellow pages.

It's helpful if the hair transplant doctor has a website as that is often a reflection of how he/she runs his business.  You can usually find information about that surgeon including the surgical methods they use, their experience and patient testimonials.

Once you've found a few possible hair transplant surgeons, set up interviews with at least 3 of them - more if you can. When interviewing, here are some questions to ask each doctor:

What kind of transplant methods/techniques do they use?

Some doctors use the FUSS technique (strip surgery), others offer FUSS as well as FUE.  Talk to each doctor about what they offer, what kind of experience they've had with each technique, the benefits of each, which one they recommend for you, etc.

(For more on the FUSS or FUE techniques of hair restoration visit our page on Hair Transplant Surgery).

Do they seem up-to-date on the latest methods in the industry? Is the surgeon interested in tailoring the surgery to your unique situation, age, face shape, etc. or do they follow a one-size-fits-all philosophy?

What kind of hair density can he/she deliver?

Some techniques are better than others at providing better hair density which can look more natural and less "pluggy". Hair restoration techniques are improving all the time which is why you need to consult a range of transplant surgeons. Again, try to find ones that offer the most up-to-date techniques.

How many surgery sessions do you need?

Many clients prefer to do everything in one surgery session but it really depends on how much you need to do and even what type of procedure you elect to have.  Your surgeon can advise you on your unique situation.

Does the hair transplant doctor do repair work?

Many clients looking for hair transplant surgery want a previous surgery repaired (for example scar repair, improve the hair density, redo the hairline, etc).

There are very specific considerations to take into account in a repair case and you want to select a surgeon who is familiar with and has experience performing repair cases.

How long has the doctor been performing hair transplant surgery?

This is very important - you don't want to take a chance with this kind of surgery. Make sure you feel comfortable with the surgeon, his/her experience and training. You might also want to check with the local licensing board to make sure your surgeon is fully licensed.

Can you talk to former clients or see pictures?

You always want to see a sample of the surgeon's work - simply to know if you are a right fit for each other or not. It also helps to give you a realistic idea of what the hair transplant doctor can do for you. If the hair transplant doctor won't show you pictures or their work, take it as a sign and get out of there.
